Before and after
Compare the placement and contrast, then use the steps below to try the idea.

What you need
A mauve-lilac satin eye shadow, a small flat shader brush and a separate clean blending brush. A richer mauve works if pale lilac looks chalky on you.
Keep your usual base routine. This tutorial focuses on the eyes. The mobile lid means the part of your eyelid that moves when you blink; find it with your eye gently closed, then check the placement looking straight ahead.
The technique, up close

AI placement examples. The pictures illustrate the two key movements; follow the written steps and the directions on your own products.
- Choose a satin rather than chunky sparkleA fine eye-labelled satin makes a sheer wash easier to control. Start with a shade that remains visible on your skin.
- Press one thin layerWith a small flat brush, place mauve on the central mobile lid and then outward. Leave the brow bone clear.
- Diffuse with a clean brushMake tiny circles only at the upper boundary. Do not blend repeatedly through the middle of the colour.
- Add definition if you want itOne thin layer of mascara can separate the lashes. Keep it lighter than a dense smoky-eye fringe.
- Keep the lip relatedA lip-labelled muted mauve balm can echo the lid. It does not need to be the same product or an exact colour match.
When to stop
The lid has a translucent mauve tint, with a soft upper edge and visible skin texture. The colour is not built into a dark smoky ring.
If it goes too far
If the wash looks patchy, press a small amount onto the bare gap instead of sweeping more across the whole lid. If it stays ashy, change to a deeper mauve rather than piling on layers.
A mistake to avoid
Using blush on eyelids because the colours match skips an important label check. Use an actual eye product.
Make it work for your day
A lighter version
Use one sheer layer on the lid centre only and keep the lower lash line clear.
Finish the rest of the face
Choose a sheer mauve or rose balm for the lips and keep cheek colour light. One coat of mascara is optional; the wash also works without a dense lash fringe.
Adapt the colour and placement
If a pale lilac looks ashy, choose a richer mauve with enough depth for your complexion. For a more visible Evening version, build a second thin layer on the lid centre.
Products to consider
Check your own makeup first. A product you already own in the right colour and labelled for the intended area may be enough.

Questions
How do I make lilac eye shadow less ashy?
Choose enough depth for your skin and build thin layers. If a pale lilac remains chalky, try a richer mauve instead of adding more of the same light shade.
How can I make this look more subtle?
Use one sheer layer on the lid centre only and keep the lower lash line clear.
What can I do if I apply too much colour?
If the wash looks patchy, press a small amount onto the bare gap instead of sweeping more across the whole lid. If it stays ashy, change to a deeper mauve rather than piling on layers.
