Denim-blue spotlight eyes

Place a small denim-blue reflection in the centre of a soft brown lid. Keep the blue on the mobile lid so it reads as a spotlight when you blink.

What you need

Matte brown shadow, a blue satin or fine shimmer labelled for eyes, a small blending brush and a flat shader brush. Start with a dry brush.

Keep your usual base routine. This tutorial focuses on the eyes. The mobile lid means the part of your eyelid that moves when you blink; find it with your eye gently closed, then check the placement looking straight ahead.

The technique, up close

  1. Prepare a thin baseUse a small amount of eye primer if it is part of your routine. Let it settle before shadow.
  2. Place the brown frameWith a small brush, press matte brown on the outer third of the lid and soften the upper boundary. Keep the centre lighter.
  3. Pick up less blue than you expectUse a flat brush and tap off excess. Choose an eye-labelled satin or fine shimmer, not craft glitter.
  4. Press at the lid centreWith the eye gently closed, press rather than sweep. Keep the reflection below the crease; add a second thin layer only if needed.
  5. Open the eyes and checkLook ahead. If the blue transfers above the crease, reduce its area next time rather than extending the whole shape upward.

When to stop

Look straight ahead, then blink: a small blue reflection appears at the centre while brown remains visible at the outer lid. Bare skin is still visible above the colour.

If it goes too far

If blue spreads too far, stop adding pigment. Use a clean brush to soften the excess at the edge; for a larger spill, remove the patch and replace it with a thinner layer.

A mistake to avoid

Sweeping shimmer back and forth spreads it across the lid. Press colour into one small area instead.

Make it work for your day

A lighter version

Use a narrow brown lash line and one small press of blue above its centre. Skip the lower-lash colour.

Finish the rest of the face

Pair the eye with a sheer nude or brown-rose lip you already wear. Keep cheek colour soft and avoid adding another metallic accent elsewhere.

Adapt the colour and placement

For hooded lids, check placement with your eyes open first and keep the shimmer thin. For monolids, use the visible mobile-lid area as your guide rather than drawing an invented crease.

Products to consider

Check your own makeup first. A product you already own in the right colour and labelled for the intended area may be enough.

  • KIKO High Pigment Eyeshadow: 46 Metallic Sky Blue

A blue reflective option for the central spotlight; metallic may read brighter than the satin illustration.

  • KIKO High Pigment Eyeshadow: 31 Matte Milk Chocolate

A brown option for the surrounding depth. Choose a deeper brown from your existing palette if this one disappears on you.

Questions

How do I stop blue shimmer spreading above the crease?

Use a thin base, pick up less shadow and press it into the central mobile lid. Check with the eyes open before adding another layer. Transfer can still vary by formula and lid shape.

How can I make this look more subtle?

Use a narrow brown lash line and one small press of blue above its centre. Skip the lower-lash colour.

What can I do if I apply too much colour?

If blue spreads too far, stop adding pigment. Use a clean brush to soften the excess at the edge; for a larger spill, remove the patch and replace it with a thinner layer.
