What you need

Blue eye shadow, optional silver eye shadow, a very fine angled brush and a small shader brush. Use products labelled for eyes and keep the brushes dry unless directions allow otherwise.

Keep your usual base routine. This tutorial focuses on the eyes. The mobile lid means the part of your eyelid that moves when you blink; find it with your eye gently closed, then check the placement looking straight ahead.

The technique, up close

AI placement examples. The pictures illustrate the two key movements; follow the written steps and the directions on your own products.

  1. Choose an eye-labelled shadowUse a pressed blue shadow with a fine finish. Do not use craft pigments or body-only glitter.
  2. Load a narrow angled brushPick up a small amount and tap off excess. Begin with the brush dry unless the brand explicitly permits damp use.
  3. Press in short sectionsWork along the upper lash line, looking slightly down into a mirror. Keep the line narrow enough to see bare lid above it.
  4. Taper with the eye openLook ahead and reduce the line to a small point near the outer corner. Do not pull the skin taut to draw it.
  5. Add one silver touchPress a tiny amount of silver eye shadow onto the central mobile lid. Keep the waterline and tear duct bare.

When to stop

The blue stays narrow enough to leave most of the lid bare. A small silver reflection appears above the centre; the outer end finishes in a short taper.

If it goes too far

If the line breaks, fill only the gap with the tip of the angled brush. For a thick section, tidy its upper edge before trying to make the other eye equally thick.

A mistake to avoid

A wet brush is not automatically safe for every powder. Follow the product directions instead of improvising a mixing medium.

Make it work for your day

A lighter version

Skip silver and press blue only along the outer half of the upper lashes.

Finish the rest of the face

Use a quiet nude or rose lip and light cheek colour. Leave the lower lashes bare to keep the blue line readable.

Adapt the colour and placement

For hooded lids, draw with the eye open where possible and use a shorter line if it transfers. A blue-only version works without the silver accent.

Products to consider

Check your own makeup first. A product you already own in the right colour and labelled for the intended area may be enough.

  • KIKO High Pigment Eyeshadow: 46 Metallic Sky Blue

A blue option for a narrow shadow line. It will be softer than a dedicated liquid liner.

Questions

Can I make eyeliner from any blue eyeshadow?

Use only a product labelled for the eye area. Apply with a dry fine brush unless its directions allow damp use, and expect a softer line than a dedicated liquid liner.

How can I make this look more subtle?

Skip silver and press blue only along the outer half of the upper lashes.

What can I do if I apply too much colour?

If the line breaks, fill only the gap with the tip of the angled brush. For a thick section, tidy its upper edge before trying to make the other eye equally thick.
